Slow, immanent, seeping permeation of relation with place and each other (whisper, ripple, shimmer, rumble); nourished by deep listening and field work.
Our language belittles the enormity and mystery of nature and stifles our ability to listen and let things be. We categorise things as a way of understanding the world, as if truly understanding it were possible. There is a cap to human perception, unfathomable forces in this universe we will likely never expose. But what if we lived in a world where we didn’t categorise as much as we do? Where we didn’t need to understand everything? Instead of asserting our dominance over land and making up words for everything we interact with, what if we actively listened to this earth we trod upon? What if we tried our very best to speak its language? Watery language, windy language, leafy language, and so on… Perhaps we shouldn’t speak at all. I know many do and continue to listen and communicate with nature, maybe we should all try a little harder.
